Beginner Chess

For students entering grades 1 - 3

Skill Level: Perfect for beginners and students with little or no chess experience.

Join our exciting Beginner Chess Camp designed especially for students who are new to chess or just learning the game. Campers will discover the world of chess in a fun, welcoming environment where learning feels like play!

Over five days of engaging instruction (3 hours per day), students will learn the basics of chess step-by-step while building confidence, focus, and critical thinking skills. Through interactive lessons, mini-games, puzzles, and beginner-friendly matches, campers will develop a strong foundation and have fun along the way.

Fairy Tale STEM Adventure

For Students entering grades K - 3

Time: 12:30 PM - 3: 30 PM

Step into a world where fairy tales meet creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on STEM fun! In this exciting class, students will explore beloved fairy tales while becoming young engineers, scientists, and inventors. Each day, children will tackle fun challenges inspired by classic stories — like building a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff, designing a strong house for the Three Little Pigs, or creating a rescue plan for Rapunzel.

Through engaging STEM activities, students will learn how to think creatively, test ideas, solve problems, and keep trying even when something doesn’t work the first time. Our class encourages a strong growth mindset by teaching children that mistakes help us learn and improve.

• Strategy is the science of planning large-scale military operations and maneuvering forces to gain an advantage.

• Combine economic, political, psychological, and military decisions to create a “Grand Strategy”

MATH & PROBABILITY

Students will:

• Practice budgeting using play money

• Purchase military units of different values using math skills

• Learn die-roll probability calculations

• Understand risk versus reward in combat decisions

TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP

Players must cooperate with teammates, communicate effectively, and work together toward victory.

Lunch Supervision Between Classes

Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch or snack to enjoy between classes. Lighthouse Learning Center provides a safe, supervised environment where students can relax, socialize respectfully, and recharge before their next session.

Our staff members are present during lunch periods to ensure students are cared for and supported at all times. We strive to create a positive, welcoming atmosphere that gives families peace of mind while students enjoy their time at summer camp.

Please send lunches that are easy to manage and do not require extensive preparation. Water bottles are encouraged.
